Julia Figueroa Peña (born April 7, 1991 in Córdoba ) is a Spanish judoka . She was third at the 2019 European Games.

Athletic career

The 1.50 m tall Julia Figueroa fought until 2012 in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 2011 she was fifth in the U23 European Championships. In 2013 she switched to super light weight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms, and in the same year she won her first Spanish championship title in the adult class, further championship titles followed in 2014 and 2015.

In 2014 she was seventh at the European Championships in Montpellier . In 2015, the European Championships were held in Baku as part of the European Games , Julia Figueroa took fifth place. Three weeks later she won the Grand Slam tournament in Tyumen , and in May 2016 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku . At the 2016 Olympic Games , she was eliminated in her opening match against the Cuban Dayaris Mestre .

In 2018 Julia Figueroa won the final of the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona against the Serbian Milica Nikolić . She finished seventh at the 2018 World Championships . In 2019 she lost to the Argentine Paula Pareto in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Yekaterinburg . Two months later, she lost the Grand Slam final in Baku to her compatriot Laura Martínez . As in 2015, the 2019 European Championships were held as part of the European Games, this time in Minsk. Figueroa lost to Milica Nikolić in the quarterfinals. With victories over the French Melanie Clement and the Portuguese Catarina Costa, Figueroa won a bronze medal in the hope round. At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, she was eliminated in the round of 16 against Distria Krasniqi from Kosovo. In November 2019 she reached her third Grand Slam final in 2019 at the tournament in Osaka , this time she was defeated by the Japanese Funa Tonaki .
