Julia Kadel (* 1986 in Berlin-Kreuzberg ) is a German jazz pianist and composer .

Kadel began playing the piano at the age of seven. She first learned classical piano and came to jazz at the age of 15 . She studied psychology at the Humboldt University Berlin up to the intermediate diploma and jazz piano from 2009 until the 2014 diploma at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden .

She leads a trio with the German-Norwegian bassist Karl-Erik Enkelmann (* 1987) and the drummer Steffen Roth (* 1989). 2014 debut album was released the trio Relying on Blue Note Records / Universal, which in About Jazz Festival was presented in Hamburg. In 2013 they won the first jazz prize of the Saar University of Music . Their concert on November 5, 2015 in the A-Trane jazz club as part of the Berlin Jazz Festival was recorded by Deutschlandradio Kultur and broadcast on November 16, 2015. On February 23, 2017, Deutschlandfunk broadcast a one-hour musical portrait of the jazz pianist as part of the “JazzFacts” series. The central observation was that the trio moved from the pianist's own compositions to joint free improvisations on the second album.

Since 2016, Kadel has also worked on a duo project with the cellist Anil Eraslan, with whom the album Noise Cloud was created. Since 2015 she has been part of Günter Baby Sommer's quartet (with Friedhelm Schönfeld and Walburga Walde). She can also be heard with the Contrust Jazz Orchestra around saxophonist Paul Berberich .
