Julia Schmidt (painter)
Julia Schmidt (* 1976 in Wolfen ) is a German painter.
Vita
Julia Schmidt studied from 1995 to 1998 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig and from 1998 to 2000 at the Glasgow School of Art . Her works are characterized by minimization and renunciation. For example, she painted discarded printing blocks by Edgar Degas , the backs of canvas from well-known paintings or pictures that have suffered water damage.

Exhibitions (selection)
In 2006 she had a special exhibition at the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig entitled "Tourism and Painting" and the exhibition "New Fabrics" at the Casey Kaplan Gallery in New York City . Her works have been shown in various collective exhibitions, for example: 2007 in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf , 2005 at the Prague Biennale and in the Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) in Zagreb , 2004 in the Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel and 2000 in the Transmission Gallery Glasgow.
Schmidt lives and works in Leipzig .
