Julian Llewelyn Bennett (born December 17, 1984 in Nottingham ) is a former English football player. In 2015, the left-back had to end his playing career at the age of only 30 due to persistent knee problems.

Athletic career

Growing up in the immediate vicinity of City Ground , Julian Bennett played for Nottingham Forest when he was young . At the age of 15 he moved to Walsall FC in West Midlands in 1999 .

After he had already come to a brief assignment in the 2003/04 season, he established himself as a regular player in the next season and scored two goals in 31 games. 2005/06 Bennett met in Football League One on his former club Nottingham Forest, which had been relegated in the preseason. For the time being, however, it was a short reunion, because the year was very unpleasant for Walsall and brought down relegation with the last place in the table.

Julian Bennett was not ready to play in the fourth-rate Football League Two and therefore returned to Forest. After a missed promotion in the previous year, his team celebrated their return to the Football League Championship after the 2007/08 season . He was able to achieve the important 1-0 opening goal in the decisive final game of the season against Yeovil Town in a 3-2 home win. Forest set a new league record with 24 games without conceding a goal. Nottingham fans also voted him Player of the Year.

The Football League Championship 2008/09 went worse than expected due to injury problems for Bennett (12 games) and in the game against the Doncaster Rovers , the crowd favorite suffered such a serious injury that he was incapacitated in the following season. After he had remained without use in the 2009/10 season , Forest loaned him to Crystal Palace on August 6, 2010 for six months .

After his contract expired, Julian Bennett moved to Sheffield Wednesday in Football League One on July 5, 2011 on a free transfer . For his new club, he played twenty-one league games in the 2011/12 season and scored two goals. Since he remained in the course of the first half of the 2012/13 season without appearances, he moved to Shrewsbury Town on November 2, 2012 on loan and played four league games for the third division team before the loan deal ended prematurely at the end of November due to injury.

On August 1, 2013, the free Bennett moved to fourth division Southend United .

In the summer of 2015, the 30-year-old Julian Bennett announced the premature end of his playing career due to his persistent knee problems after he had previously remained without a competitive game for two and a half years.
