Juliana Fabritius-Dancu (born January 21, 1930 in Sibiu ; † August 7, 1986 in Bucharest ) was a Transylvanian-Saxon painter , folklorist and art historian from Romania .

Life

Juliana Fabritius was born as the daughter of the Hermannstadt architect Julius Alfred Fabritius and Gertrude Juliane Seraphin. At the age of 12 she took lessons from the graphic artist Hildegard Schieb , then from the Transylvanian-Saxon folklore painter Trude Schullerus . She completed the grammar school in Sibiu and studied in 1948/49 at the Art Academy in Bucharest. There she came under the spotlight of the secret police Securitate , was persecuted and arrested on charges of "espionage" and sentenced to two years in prison. After her release, she regularly took part in exhibitions organized by the Sibiu Department of the Union of Plastic Artists. In 1957 she married the art critic and journalist Dumitru Dancu.

For many years she worked closely with the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu, the Village Museum and the Folklore Department of the Academy in Bucharest. Working as a freelance artist and author since 1967, she illustrated numerous specialist books and wrote about monographs

translated over ten art volumes and published numerous historical and art-historical articles in magazines and newspapers.

Juliana Fabritius-Dancu has rendered outstanding services to the research, recording, presentation and publication of the art and architectural monuments of the Transylvanian Saxons .
