Julio César Manzur Caffarena (born June 22, 1981 in Limpio , Paraguay ) is a former Paraguayan football player. He and his country took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and won the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic soccer tournament .

Career

The central defender played most of his career with various first division clubs from the Paraguayan capital Asunción , with the longest time at Club Guaraní at the age of six . Between 2006 and 2011 he also played for clubs from Brazil ( FC Santos ), Mexico ( CF Pachuca and Club León ) and Argentina ( CA Tigre ). With Pachuca he was able to win the North American SuperLiga , an American-Mexican club competition, in 2007 and the North American Champions League in 2008. He ended his career at Club Rubio Ñu in 2015 .

Manzur completed 32 international matches for the Paraguayan national soccer team from 2004 to 2012 and scored one international goal. Shortly after his debut, he was able to win the silver medal as a regular player with the Paraguayan team at the 2004 Olympic football tournament in Athens . He was also part of the squad for the 2006 World Cup , but only made a brief appearance in the last group game against Trinidad and Tobago. He also took part in the Copa America in 2004 and 2007 , where he reached the quarter-finals with Paraguay and was on the field in a total of three games.
