Julius Campe Prize

The Julius Campe Prize is a German literary prize awarded by the Hoffmann und Campe publishing house . It was donated in 1956 on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the publishing house and is named after the publisher Julius Campe , who developed the publishing house into a center for opposition literature. The prize was initially awarded until 1964 for novels and factual literature that characterized the spirit of freedom in the occidental sense. Since 2002 it has been awarded annually as the Critique's Prize to personalities who have made “outstanding contributions to literary criticism and literature mediation”.

Doping

The prize money was originally a total of DM 60,000, which was to be divided between four awards. The latest date for the last award was in 1964, when Thomas Bernhard received the award. The prize has been awarded again since 2002. Since then, the award has been endowed with 99 bottles of wine and the facsimile of the French conditions by Heinrich Heine , published by Hoffmann and Campe .
