Julius Adam , (born January 26, 1821 in Munich ; † February 24, 1874 ibid) was a German genre and landscape painter and lithographer .

Life

Julius Adam is the youngest son of the battle , portrait and genre painter Albrecht Adam . Like his brothers from the family of painters Adam Benno (1812–1892), Franz (1815–1886) and Eugen (1817–1880), he became a painter and lithographer . He learned from his father and soon showed talent in studying mechanics; he painted landscapes with figures and animals and watercolors. He also lithographed the works of his father and his brothers, including the “ Memories of the campaigns of the imperial Austrian army in Italy ” (with a dedication to Radetzky ).

He worked with Joseph Albert on the new technique of photography to create a quick artistic print on metal plates, an epoch-making process that was later used as collotype or albertotype by Johann Baptist Obernetter . Julius Adam also dealt with other mechanical inventions and with clock making.

In 1848 he married Theresa Ravizza (1825–1904). His son of the same name, Julius Adam, has become famous for genre pictures, especially cat scenes.
