Julius Caspar Ziegler

Julius Caspar Ziegler (born February 16, 1806 in Schaffhausen ; † January 6, 1862 there ) was a Swiss lawyer , landowner and politician .

biography

Born as the son of the reformed pastor Johann Franz Ziegler, Julius Caspar Ziegler studied law in Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1828 to 1830 . In Göttingen he became a member of the Corps Helvetia in 1828 . In Heidelberg he joined the Corps Alemannia in 1830. After completing his studies, he managed his estate in Schaffhausen . From 1833 to 1835 he was a member of the Court of Appeal . From 1836 to 1861 he was President of the District Court of Schaffhausen and from 1837 to 1839 President of the Cantonal Court . In the period from 1840 to 1846 he acted as an interrogator. Ziegler was politically active at the municipal, cantonal and federal level. From 1836 to 1843 and from 1848 to 1862 he was a member of the Grand City Council of Schaffhausen, of which he was President from 1848 to 1861. In 1847 he was a member of the Small City Council. From 1838 to 1839 and from 1843 to 1861 he was a member of the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council . From 1857 to 1859 he was a liberal member of the Swiss Council of States . Although initially conservative, he approved the new Federal Constitution of 1848. His commitment was to the transport sector . He promoted the participation of the city of Schaffhausen in the Rhine Falls Railway .
