Village church

The Church of St. Mary is the village church of Henningsleben , a district of the Thuringian health resort Bad Langensalza in the Unstrut-Hainich district .

The church, built in 1730, is particularly worth seeing because of its interior. 22 pictures in need of restoration adorn the parapet of the three-sided gallery, which can be climbed via two stairs on both inner sides of the church entrance and which rests on ten mighty square columns. The organ is on the west side of the ship on the gallery. Traces of restoration can be found both on the flat coffered ceiling and in some places in the gallery. The interior of the church is illuminated by four rectangular windows on the south side, one on the north side and three in the choir.

The tower on the north side of the east- facing church was probably built as a defensive tower , because its only entrance from the outside is about four meters high. Today it can be reached via a roofed wooden staircase that is accessible from two sides, but grated on one side and covered with red tiles. The narrow, loopholes-like windows also give an indication of the original use of the tower. The upper storey of the tower is slated and has a slate cover as well as a lantern with attached tower ball and weather vane . A tower clock with a white face is attached to its north side.

The nave as wearing a hipped roof formed on the west side gable roof , the three-sided choir in the East is like covered the roof of the nave with red bricks. Today's entrance to the church is under the trapezoidal gable on the west side. A former entrance on the north side is now walled up, but still clearly visible.

The parish belongs to the Evangelical Church District Mühlhausen .
