Julius Heinrich Wilhelm Campe

Julius Heinrich Wilhelm Campe (born February 18, 1846 in Hamburg ; † November 13, 1909 there ) was a German publisher and politician .

Life

Campe was the son of Julius Campe and heir to the Hoffmann und Campe publishing house , which he successfully continued. He donated the Campe'sche Historische Kunststiftung, from whose proceeds works of art are acquired for the Hamburg collections. Around 1909, Campe took over the Heinrich Heine monument made in 1873 by Louis Hasselriis , which Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary had erected in the park of her Achilleion Castle in Corfu in 1892 . Campe offered the monument to the city of Hamburg as a gift, but the city declined. The memorial was later set up in the Barkhof, Mönckebergstrasse 12 and then came to Toulon via Altona .

Campe belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1878 to 1880 .
