Julius Lossmann

Julius Loßmann (born April 24, 1882 in Glan-Münchweiler , † March 29, 1957 in Nuremberg ) was a politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany .

Life

Lossmann learned the shoemaker's trade and became a union member . He moved to Nuremberg in 1900 and joined the SPD, whose Nuremberg party secretary he was from 1918 to 1933. In 1933 the people of Nuremberg elected him to the city council. In the same year the persecution of the Social Democrats by the National Socialists began, which is why Lossmann was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp for a total of 20 months in 1933/34 and 1944/45 .

In 1946 he moved back into the city council, became chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and district secretary of his party. From December 7, 1949 until his death, he held the office of honorary mayor of the city of Nuremberg. In this function he was the first chairman of the supervisory board of Flughafen Nürnberg GmbH and otherwise appeared in public frequently. For example, in 1950 he laid the foundation stone for the Falkenheim settlement .

Loßmann was buried at the Südfriedhof (grave no. 34 a / b).

Street Dedication

Julius-Loßmann-Strasse in Nuremberg forms the border between the southern cemetery and the garden city. Before it was renamed, in memory of Julius Lossmann, it was part of Katzwanger Strasse.
