Julius Ludwig Rothermundt

Julius Ludwig Rothermundt (born October 18, 1827 in Nienburg ; † August 7, 1890 in Münster ) was a Russian councilor , industrialist and later a Dresden villa owner.

Life

Julius Ludwig was co-owner of the "AW Rothermundt" founded in St. Petersburg in 1828 , which made enormous income from sugar factories and tobacco trading in Russia until the revolution . He was also the owner of the St. Petersburg Zitz printer “J. Lütsch ”and in 1870 co-founder of the insurance company“ Russischer Lloyd ”.

He married Ida Amalie Lange from Saxony in 1872 .

In 1874 he moved to Dresden, where he bought the old property of the historic Green Meadow Inn in the suburb of Gruna and built his magnificent villa there in the style of a country house. With this he laid the foundation stone for the Rothermundtpark, which his family made public in 1914 . Rothermundtstrasse was named after him in Gruna in 1881 while he was still alive.

The art collector Adolf Rothermundt (1846–1930), who also came to Dresden from St. Petersburg and after whom the Villa Rothermundt in Blasewitz is named, was a relative.
