Julius Markschiess van Trix

Julius Markschiess "Jonny" van Trix (born November 29, 1920 in Berlin ; † September 4, 2017 ) was a German artist expert and author .

Life

At a young age he became interested in the world of artists and joined the Neukölln artist association Union-Victoria. After the Second World War he went to Braunschweig for a short time and opened an artist agency. He himself tinged around the country as a tightrope artist . In 1946 he fell from a six meter high wire rope when it suddenly broke. He injured his right leg so much that a further career as an artist was impossible.

In 1955 he founded the first state art school next to the old Friedrichstadt-Palast . For this purpose he wrote an extensive textbook "History of Artistry". In 1969 he was commissioned by the GDR to rebuild the Plänterwald cultural park . In 1982, together with Bernhard Nowak, he published a book documenting artists and circus posters, which was designed by the well-known GDR font and poster designer Gert Wunderlich .
