Julius Strnadt (born December 23, 1833 in Schwertberg , Upper Austria , † November 5, 1917 in Graz ) was an (Upper) Austrian politician , historian and cultural promoter.

Life

Strnadt was born in the Upper Austrian town of Schwertberg as the son of a kuk consumption tax commissioner . After studying law at the University of Vienna , he first became a civil servant at various mixed district offices, then from 1877 district judge in Rohrbach in Upper Austria and from 1881 in Kremsmünster .

Strnadt only gained importance later as a conservative member of the large estates in the Upper Austrian state parliament . Here he initiated the establishment of the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives in 1896 and campaigned heavily for financial support for the symphonic composer Anton Bruckner .

As a historian, Strnadt made significant contributions to the history of the Upper Austrian provinces and rulers. His work on the Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1626 and his Historical Atlas of the Province of Upper Austria established his reputation as one of the most important regional historians in Upper Austria.
