Julius Wentscher senior
Julius Theophil Wentscher (born November 27, 1842 in Graudenz , Pomerania, † November 6, 1918 in Berlin ) was a German landscape and marine painter .
Life
Julius Wentscher received his first training at the Art Academy in Königsberg (Prussia) , followed by studying at the Berlin Academy in the master class for landscape painting with Hans Fredrik Gude . From 1884 he was listed in the Berlin address books as a landscape painter. In 1881 he exhibited his works for the first time, still living in Königsberg, at the exhibition of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. After that he was regularly represented at the Academy exhibitions and later the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions . In 1899 he received the Small Gold Medal for Art from the Academy. He was a member of the General German Art Cooperative and the Association of Berlin Artists .
His oeuvre mainly comprised landscapes and marine paintings. Although living in Berlin, his motifs were mainly from the Samland coast, the Curonian Spit and the Mecklenburg coast of the Baltic Sea .
family
Julius Wentscher's son of the same name Julius (1881–1961) also became a landscape painter, his daughter Dora Wentscher (1883–1964) worked as an actress, sculptor and writer and was married to the writer Johannes Nohl . His daughter-in-law was the sculptor Tina Haim-Wentscher .
