Julius Wilhelm Theophil von Richter

Julius Wilhelm Theophil von Richter (born December 14, 1808 in Doblen ( Courland ), † March 13, 1892 in St. Petersburg ) was a Baltic German theologian .

education

1823-25 ​​he attended the illustrious grammar school in Mitau . 1825-28 he studied theology at the University of Dorpat .

activities

1831-35 he was editor of the Latweeschu Awises . 1835–50 pastor of the Latvian congregation in Doblen and Behrshof (Courland). He arranged for the prayer houses to be built in Neu-Sessau (1841/43) and Gluhde (1848). In 1844 he became a consistorial councilor and since 1845 he was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran General Consistory .

1861–68 he was general superintendent and vice-president of the St. Petersburg district consistory . From 1868–92 he was Vice President of the Evangelical Lutheran General Consistory. In 1870 he was appointed bishop.

Origin and family

His father was the theologian Johann Georg Leberecht Richter (1763 - 1840), who was married to Julianne Lindner. Julius vR married Laura Neander († 1888) in 1833, their son was the well-known chemist Viktor Matthias Julius von Richter (1841 - 1891).
