Julius von Gomperz (born November 21, 1823 in Brno ; † February 21, 1909 there ) was a Moravian industrialist.

Life

After years of study and travel (he studied technology and philosophy) and service in the Brno National Guard, Max von Gomperz's younger brother joined the grandfather's Auspitz cloth factory and was elected to the Brno Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1859 , of which he became President in 1872 . In 1871 he was elected by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a member of the House of Representatives. In 1892 he left the House of Representatives, de he was appointed to the manor house . He was also a member of the Moravian Parliament for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry . Gomperz belonged to the German liberal direction and distinguished himself as a critic of the Hungarian high tariff policy. Gomperz was also active on the board of the Brno Jewish Community (president since 1872). He published his childhood memories in 1902 . Gomperz was married to the chamber singer Caroline von Gomperz-Bettelheim , he was the uncle of the philosopher Heinrich Gomperz . The philologist and historian Theodor Gomperz (1832–1912) was his brother.

Julius von Gomperz found his final resting place in the Jewish cemetery in Brno (26b / 3/3).
