Caroline (also Karoline) von Gomperz-Bettelheim , b. Bettelheim (born June 1, 1845 in Pest ; † December 13, 1925 in Vienna ) was an Austro - Hungarian pianist and chamber singer .

Life

Caroline (also written as Karoline) von Gomperz-Bettelheim was born in Hungary in 1845 to Jewish parents. Her younger brother is the author, literary critic and journalist Anton Bettelheim .

At the age of seven, she accompanied her piano teacher at a public violin concert. Her talent prompted her parents to have her trained. She took piano lessons from Karl Goldmark and singing lessons from Moritz Laufer and made her debut as a pianist at the age of 14. Just two years later she was the first time as a singer ( alto ) on a Viennese opera stage . From 1861 to 1867 she was a permanent member of the Vienna Court Opera . In 1867 he married Julius Ritter von Gomperz (1824–1909), President of the Chamber of Commerce and Reichstag deputy, and said goodbye to the big stage. Caroline von Gomperz-Bettelheim continued to appear on smaller German stages.

Caroline was a longstanding committee member of the "Patriotic Relief Society of the Red Cross for Moravia " .

Her honorary grave is located in the cemetery in Vienna - Döbling (group 32, row 3, number 22).
