The Virgin pool is about two kilometers (formerly approximately 6.6 km) long oxbow lake of the splices in Leipzig district Connewitz and remained a virtually stagnant water. It often falls dry, is only continuously filled with water after heavy rain events or snowmelt and only then has a very low flow in its lower reaches.

course

Junction of the Jungfernlache near Großstädteln around 1828
Jungfernlache near Raschwitz around 1828

The Jungfernlache branched off to the left of the Pleiße in what is now the Markkleeberger district of Großstädteln, flowed past Oetzsch and Raschwitz and reached Connewitz by crossing under Koburger Straße. From there it meandered with several arms through the Ratsholz and flowed east of the wildlife park restaurant, like today's Pleißehochflutbett in the Pleiße. A smaller branch in the council wood flowed to the Panichs Lache . Due to development and lignite opencast mining, the course on the Markkleeberg area no longer exists today, only the Connewitz part has been preserved.
