Junie Cobb

Junius C. "Junie" Cobb (* around 1896 in Hot Springs , Arkansas; † 1970 ) was an American jazz musician ( clarinet , tenor saxophone , banjo , piano , violin , tuba and drums ) and band leader.

Junie Cobb played with Johnny Dunn as a teenager ; After moving to Chicago , he directed his own ensemble in 1920/21, which performed at the Club Alvadere . In the 1920s he worked with King Oliver (1924-27) as a banjo player and with Jimmie Noone (1928-29), with whom he recorded for Vocalion and Victor . In the early 1930s he played in Paris for six months , then returned to Chicago and led his own formations. In 1946 he accompanied Annabelle Calhoun as a pianist and appeared as a solo pianist. In 1955 he withdrew from the music scene, but still played with Red Saunders in 1961 and Jasper Taylor in 1962. Cobb wrote the track "Once or Twice" (1929).

His brother Jimmy was a trumpeter who participated in some of Junie Cobb's recordings.
