Juozapas Algirdas Katkus

Juozapas Algirdas Katkus (born June 15, 1936 in Kretinga ( Pryšmančiai ), † November 12, 2011 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian politician, Seimas member.

Life

In 1948 his parents and three sisters were expelled to Siberia , Irkutsk Oblast and in 1949 the remaining family members were expelled to Krasnoyarsk . From 1950 to 1957 he worked as a forest worker and chauffeur. In 1957 he returned to Lithuania . In 1960 he took the external high school diploma in Vilnius , completed his diploma studies in 1964 and an aspirantur at the Kauno politechnikos institutas in 1971 . From 1964 to 1992 he worked at the KPI, then as an assistant, high school teacher and lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Kauno technologijos universitetas . From 1992 to 2000 he was a member of the Seimas . From 1996 to 1999 he headed the Committee on National Security and from 1999 to 2000 the Committee on National Security and Defense.

From 1989 he was a member of Sąjūdis , from 1993 deputy chairman of Tėvynės sąjunga .
