Museum operation

The courtyard with the stable house , barn , outbuildings and garden gives an impression of the way of life and work of the Jura farmers. Farmers and servants lived on the farm, as well as animals such as horses, cattle, pigeons and bees. Numerous historical objects and vehicles are exhibited in the buildings and on the grounds. All rooms and the cottage garden are accessible to visitors.

history

The farm was mentioned for the first time in 1551 in the interest books of the Hochstift Eichstätt. At that time the owner was the pastor of Hofstetten, Willibaldus Mayr. The farm changed hands several times over the years before it passed to the Schermer / Albrecht family in 1786, who owned the Jura farm for almost 200 years. You gave the name "Kipferlerhof" the proper name of the farm, which is still used today as the museum's nickname. The origin of the name is unclear. In 1984 the last member of the Albrechts family died childless and the line of succession expired. The local home keeper at the time, Wunibald Iser, recognized the cultural and historical value of the run-down Kipferlerhof. The district of Eichstätt acquired the farm and restored it through renovation work in order to set up a museum in it, which was assigned to a support association founded for this purpose. In 1986 the Jura Farm Museum was founded.

The core of the building probably dates from the 16th century due to the documentary mention, but the buildings recognizable today date from the first half of the 19th century. The segmented arched windows, the gate entrance and the wooden door frame are more than 150 years old. The area is surrounded by a courtyard wall. The main building is a two-story residential stable house. It is a Jura house with the limestone roof characteristic of this type of building . The construction of the Jura houses is shaped by the material that could be extracted in the nearby quarries. The roof, the clearest feature of the Jura buildings, is covered with slabs of Solnhofen limestone (so-called leg slate), which were broken in the slab quarries of the Altmühlalb . So that the loosely laid roof panels do not slip off, the roof has a flat roof pitch and a massive roof structure to support the heavy roof covering. Like other Jura houses, it has a small roof overhang and small window openings. The massive house walls were made of limestone blocks. The slaked lime for mortar , wall plaster and wall paint was burned from limestone. The Jura houses are therefore only located at a distance from the quarries that a horse-drawn carriage could deliver and return within a day. The beams for the ceilings and roof trusses were taken from the surrounding forests.

In the main building, the owner family with the servants, but also the animal stables were housed on two floors. In the residential stable house, the warmth of the animals in the basement was used to heat the apartment on the upper floor. The current furnishings in the individual rooms largely come from the former residents, and objects have been added in isolated cases for better museum communication.

In the barn , the barn, hay and straw as well as numerous agricultural implements were stored, which are exhibited there today. Numerous work was also carried out in the barn, such as threshing and chopping the grain. Among other things, cows were housed in the stables. All of the farm's outbuildings can also be visited. These include the open oven, the well, the warehouse (the "Remise") and the woodshed. Chickens are still kept in the hen house today. In 2005, the Jura Farm Museum also received a new implement shed, in which old tractors, tie mowers and harrows are exhibited.

The vegetable and herb garden (the so-called " Wurzgarten ") is still maintained today and is planted with vegetables, medicinal herbs and kitchen spices. There are old apple varieties in the orchard. Today it is used for festivals and events within the museum.
