Juraj Hromkovič
Juraj Hromkovič (born August 24, 1958 in Bratislava ) is a Slovak computer scientist and professor at the ETH Zurich . He is the author of numerous monographs and scientific publications in the field of algorithmics , complexity theory and randomization .
biography
Hromkovič studied at Comenius University , where he received his doctorate in 1986 ( Dr. rer. Nat. ), Completed his habilitation in 1989 ( Theoretical Cybernetics and Mathematical Informatics ) and was a lecturer from 1989 to 1990. From 1989 to 1994 he was visiting professor at Burkhard Monien's chair at the University of Paderborn . In 1994 he received a professorship at the computer science institute of the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . 1997 to 2003 he headed the Chair of Computer Science 1 at RWTH Aachen University . Since 2004 he has been a professor for information technology and education at the ETH Zurich.
In addition to active research in various areas of theoretical computer science (approx. 170 publications), one focus of his work is the teaching of the basics of computer science to schoolchildren. Hromkovič has been a member of the Slovak Academic Society since 2001 and a member of the Academia Europaea since 2010 .
