Yuri Nikolayevich Cholopov

Yuri Nikolajewitsch Cholopow ( Russian Ю́рий Никола́евич Холо́пов ; born August 14, 1932 in Ryazan ; † April 24, 2003 in Moscow ) was a Russian musicologist and music theorist .

Life

Cholopow studied at the Ryazan Conservatory and from 1949 to 1960 with Igor Spossobin and Semjon Bogatyrjow at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1963 he became a member of the Union of Soviet Composers. In 1977 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Contemporary Aspects of Harmony in Music of Prokofiev . From 1960 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory and became professor there in 1983. He conducted intensive research on Anton von Webern and the theory of harmony . His writings are over 1000 copies. He was a member of the Academia Europaea in London.

Cholopov's sister is the musicologist Valentin Cholopova .
