General

They consisted of the band members Sergej Halosin (alias Säge), Arnold Kinzel (alias Arni) and Friederike Herr (alias Flicke) and were under contract with the Hamburg label Audiolith Records . Her songs contain extraordinary synthesizer sounds and pop elements. Yuri Gagarin was primarily a live band . The albums only represent part of their style. They gave concerts regularly and frequently, mostly in German-speaking countries. The events they performed at range from small clubs to medium-sized concerts.

history

The band is named after the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin , the first man in space . In 1990 all three band members came to Germany. The official website states:

"From the Kazakh, Uzbek steppe and New York City through the Lüneburg Heath to Hamburg."

In Lüneburg , Säge and Arni founded their first hardcore band during their school days and released their first records . They met Flicke in the rehearsal room of the youth center. She was from New York City and refused to sing in German. After several band dissolutions and new foundations, they finally came to Hamburg to live with Lars Lewerenz and the young Audiolith. This was the starting point for the Yuri Gagarin project . In December 2010 and January 2011, Yuri Gagarin finally gave their farewell tour, which sealed the end of the music group.

Development of the style of music

The band's musical style has changed a lot over time. In the beginning it was exclusively hardcore, but over time it changed to electro. In the album Energia, Flicke is active as a singer for the first time, in the song “supermarket”. The new style of music was popular and almost all the tracks in the following album Cobra were given their vocals. With this last step, pop had firmly anchored itself in Yuri Gagarin's electric style .
