Yuri I of Galicia ( Ukrainian Юрій I Львович , Russian Юрий I Львович , baptismal name George / George Георгий * to 1252/1262, † 18th March 1308 ) was Prince of Bel (1269-1301), Prince of Halych-Vladimir ( 1301–1308) and "King of the Rus" (1305–1308).

Life

Juri was the son of Lev I of Galicia , King of Russia, and of Constance of Hungary, daughter of King Bela IV. His birth year is not known.

From 1269 he was Prince of Bels . He took part in military expeditions to Poland and Hungary at his father's side . In 1288 he conquered Brest , but had to vacate it again on the instructions of his father.

In 1301, after the death of his father, he became the new prince of the powerful principality Halitsch-Vladimir . In 1303 he was able to found his own metropolis of Galicia (seat of a metropolitan equivalent to the Kiev metropolis).

Juri also carried the title “King of Rus” (“Rex Rusiae”) like his grandfather and father, but nothing is known about a coronation. He died on March 18, 1308 (or 1316?).

Marriage and offspring

Juri was married to Xenia (Ksenija) (-1286), daughter of Jaroslaw Jaroslawitsch von Tver. With her he had

In his second marriage he was married to Evfimija (-1308), daughter of Casimir von Kujawien and sister of Władysław I. Lokietek. He had four children with her

  • Andrej (-1323), Prince of Halitsch-Vladimir (1308-1323)
  • Lev II (-1323), Prince of Lutsk , Fürdt of Halitsch (1308-1323)
  • Maria (–1341), wife of Prince Trojden I of Mazovia
  • Anastasia (around 1364), wife of Prince Alexander Michailowitsch von Tver
