Yuri Ivanovich Borissow ( Russian Юрий Иванович Борисов ; born December 31, 1956 in Vyshny Volotschok , Tver Oblast ) is a Russian politician and has been Vice-Prime Minister of the Russian Federation since May 2018, responsible for the military-industrial complex .

Life

Borissow graduated from the Suwurow Cadet School in Tver in 1974 and graduated from the Pushkin Higher Command School for Radio Electronics in Air Defense in 1978. He then served as an officer in the Soviet Army in various positions. In 1985 he successfully graduated from the Faculty of Numerical Mathematics and Cybernetics at Lomonosov University in Moscow . In 1998 he was transferred to the reserve of the Russian Armed Forces and filled the post of General Director of the Scientific and Technical Center "Module" . In July 2004 he became head of administration for radio-electronic industry and control systems at the Federal Agency for Industry. From October 2007 he filled the post of deputy head of the Federal Agency for Industry. On July 2, 2008, he became Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. In this role, he oversaw a radio electronics development program and supported the launch of the GLONASS satellite navigation system . On March 3, 2011, he started to work as 1st Deputy Chairman of the Military Industrial Commission in the Government of the Russian Federation.

By decree of the President of November 15, 2012, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense . In this post he was responsible for the military equipment of the armed forces as well as for the development and modernization of military and special technology. On June 5, 2013, he also became chairman of the Military Technical Committee of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS . Following the Russian presidential election, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister on May 18, 2018. In this role he is u. a. responsible for national defense, military equipment, military development, international military cooperation, nuclear oversight and civil defense issues.

Borissow is a member of the board of directors of the Uralwagonsawod armaments company and the OAK aviation consortium . On October 7, 2013, he was appointed Active State Advisor of the Russian Federation, 1st class.

Borissow is a doctor of technical sciences. He is married and has two sons.
