Career

Ivanov made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1975/76 . After a disappointing 50th place in the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf , he was able to steadily improve his performance. After ranking 31st in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and 36th in Innsbruck, he landed in Bischofshofen in 28th place. At the end of the tour he finished with 744.3 points, which was also his highest point value in his career, 31st place overall. In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1976/77 he was able to jump into the top ten for the first time in seventh place on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck . In addition, he achieved two top 30 placements and a rather disappointing 50th place in Bischofshofen and at the end of the tour was in 16th place overall.

His most successful tour in the overall standings was the Four Hills Tournament in 1977/78 . After rather mixed results in Oberstdorf and on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Iwanow jumped just past the top ten in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen and finished the tour in 16th place overall. Ivanov was finally able to surprise at the opening jumping of the Four Hills Tournament 1978/79 . In Oberstdorf he won the jumping ahead of the German Jochen Danneberg and the Finn Pentti Kokkonen . However, he could not repeat this performance in any of the following competitions. As a result, it was only enough to rank 21 in the tour's overall ranking. His last Four Hills Tournament in 1979/80 was also his debut in the newly created Ski Jumping World Cup . However, he missed results in the world class. The best individual result was 31st place in Oberstdorf. After completing the tour, Ivanov was in 45th place overall.

At the end of his international career, Ivanov started at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , which were also rated as the Nordic World Ski Championships. After he finished 33rd on the normal hill of the MacKenzie Intervale Ski Jumping Complex , he finished 34th on the large hill.

At the National Championships of the USSR there are four second places and two third places. After completing his active career, he became a coach and led the Olympic teams in 1988 and 1992.
