Jussieu is an underground transfer station of the Paris Métro . It is served by lines 7 and 10 . Until June 8, 1959 it was called Jussieu - Halle-aux-vins.

location

The metro station is located in the Saint-Victor district in the 5th arrondissement of Paris . It lies under the Place Jussieu and crosses the Rue Jussieu almost at right angles.

Surname

The place Jussieu and the Rue Jussieu give it its name. Bernard de Jussieu (1699–1777) and his nephew Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748–1836) were important botanists .

The second part of the name referred to the immediately adjacent area of the Halle aux vins de Paris . The wine market, built in 1808, was expanded to include additional buildings in 1868, but in the late 1950s the buildings were demolished in favor of the Campus de Jussieu.

history

The stations of lines 7 and 10 opened at the same time on April 26, 1931. On that day the crossing of the Seine under line 7 was put into operation and at the same time the route of line 10 was changed. From then on, the latter no longer ran from Maubert - Mutualité via Place Monge to Porte de Choisy , but ran via the new Cardinal Lemoine station to the Jussieu terminus. It was not until July 12, 1939 that line 10 was extended by one station to its current terminus, Gare d'Austerlitz .

When it opened on April 26, 1931, line 7 took over the section Place Monge - Place d'Italie (from March 7, 1930 to Porte de Choisy), which was initially used by line 10 for only about fifteen months Extended south to Porte d'Ivry .

description

Both stations have side platforms under an elliptical , white-tiled ceiling vault on two parallel tracks. They are parallel to each other in one plane and are slightly curved. The station on line 7 was designed from the start with a length of 105 m, that of line 10 with a length of 75 m.

The route of line 7 slopes to the east in order to cross under the Seine. Below the campus, it is crossed by line 10, which, after a 90 ° curve, is heading towards its terminus. There is a simple track change in the tunnel west of the line 10 station.

The only access is on Place Jussieu on Rue Linné. It has an illuminated station sign with a network map and is flanked on both sides by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style with the word METRO.
