Career
Justin Kurtz began his career as a hockey player with the Brandon Wheat Kings , for whom he was active from 1993 to 1997 in the Western Hockey League . In his third and penultimate year in the junior league, he won the President's Cup with the team . He was also elected to the league's East Second All-Star Team. In the summer before the start of the 1995/96 season he had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1995 by the Winnipeg Jets in the fourth round in 84th place.
After completing his junior career, the defender then played for a year for the Las Vegas Thunder from the International Hockey League , followed by five seasons for the Manitoba Moose from the American Hockey League , the then farm team of the Vancouver Canucks from the National Hockey League . In these he came in the 2001/02 season to 27 NHL missions, in which he got eight scorer points . In the summer of 2003 Kurtz signed a contract for the first time in Europe when he moved to the Krefeld Penguins in the German Ice Hockey League . In two DEL seasons, the Canadian scored 45 scorer points in 100 games, including 14 goals. After he had spent the 2005/06 season with the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey , Kurtz returned to North America. There he took the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League under contract. He stayed with the Sharks for only one season, as he did with the HC Milano Vipers from the Italian Serie A , before moving to the Nordsjælland Cobras in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen in 2008 .
Between May 2011 and January 2012 he was under contract with Liwest Black Wings Linz , before his contract was terminated due to the commitment of Jan-Axel Alavaara . In August 2012 Kurtz was signed by the Dresdner Eislöwen , but was seriously injured in the middle of the season and missed the rest of the season.
