The prison Heidering (short: JVA Heidering ) is a correctional facility (JVA) in the country Berlin , in the municipality of Grossbeeren in the Teltow-Fläming in Brandenburg is. It is located south of Berlin-Marienfelde and has 647 places for adult male prisoners. From the Berlin / Brandenburg border, the distance via the 101 federal highway is approx. 12 kilometers.

The facility was planned by the Graz architect Josef Hohensinn , who had already planned the Leoben Justice Center . The company premises are former urban estates in Berlin .

The groundbreaking ceremony for the official start of construction on JVA Heidering took place on July 8, 2009. The foundation stone was laid in November 2010 and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on August 18, 2011. The State Treaty between Berlin and Brandenburg was signed on August 25, 2011 and ratified in December 2011. The trial operation of the prison began as scheduled on January 2, 2013. The ceremonial opening and symbolic handover of the keys of the prison followed on March 21, 2013; The occupancy began on June 12, 2013. Since March 2014, the exclusive occupancy has been according to the enforcement plan of the State of Berlin.

Institution and State Treaty

JVA Heidering has 647 places for adult male prisoners and has high security standards. The detention places are spread over three identical sub-institutions. A branch has three levels with four residential units each. With one exception with 17 cells, there are 18 cells on each residential unit. This includes a handicapped-accessible cell and a meeting room consisting of two single cells connected by a door for crisis prevention.

For the employment and qualification of the prisoners, the institution has three workshops and a school. In contrast to other penal institutions in the state of Berlin, the Heidering prison does not have its own operations or foremen, but has concluded service contracts with six different companies and independent providers for this purpose . Since the beginning of 2015, more than 75% of the detainees have been employed accordingly. The sports and leisure area of ​​the prison includes a 1000 m² multi-purpose hall as well as an outdoor area with variable options on different sized sports fields and a fitness course with a running track. There are various other leisure activities, including an approximately 135 m² library .

The prison is run by the State of Berlin, although it is located in Brandenburg; the prison is intended to accommodate Berlin prisoners. 230 employees of the state of Berlin (as of May 2014) work in the Heidering prison. The prison is part of the real estate special property of the State of Berlin managed by the state-owned BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH .

With regard to sovereign activity, Berlin and Brandenburg have agreed in the State Treaty of August 25, 2011 that Berlin enforcement law applies on the premises and that only the service law of the State of Berlin applies to employees. The state of Berlin bears the costs of running the institution.
