Singing branch

The Singen branch was established between 1939 and 1942. Male prisoners have been housed here since 1970, who have to serve a prison sentence of more than 15 months and who are older than 62 years. You will find a detention facility adapted to your age. "In view of this and the special needs resulting from it, the prisoners are given extensive freedom of movement within the institution, so that they can organize everyday life largely independently." A prison that specializes in older prisoners is unique in Germany.

Capacity and accommodation

In 2007, the institution as a whole accommodated an average of 140 prisoners. Single cells are the rule, but the so-called “department opening” takes place in the evening: The cells are opened and the prisoners can move freely within their department. Contact with one another is also possible. The Singen branch has a capacity of around 40 prisoners.

Voluntary supervisors are available. There is an "Alcoholics Anonymous Group". Services are offered for the two major Christian denominations. An imam looks after Muslim prisoners. Among other things, cooking and painting courses, play groups and sporting activities are offered. During the relatively short period of detention in the main institution, vocational training cannot be completed. However, the prisoners are used to work (about seven hours a day).
