The penal school North Rhine-Westphalia is located in the Wuppertal district of Ronsdorf . It is the only vocational school in prisons of the country North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1977 to December 2014 she was housed in the old Josef-Neuberger-Haus in Wuppertal- Barmen .

Teaching company

Around 300 trainees begin their training in the prison school every year. It is the largest training facility of its kind in the German-speaking area. The theoretical training imparted here leads to intermediate service in the penal system of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

After it was founded, the facility was initially located in specially built buildings in Remscheid - Lüttringhausen and was assigned to the Remscheid correctional facility there (at that time still a prison ).

On March 1, 1977, the prison was able to move into the building of the former college of education at Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Str. auf der Hardt , which moved into the new campus of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal on Grifflenberg . The building was named in 1983 after Josef Neuberger , the state's former Minister of Justice, in the Josef-Neuberger-Haus . It is located on the Hardtberg between the Bismarck Tower and the Church University in the east of the elevation. The construction and real estate company NRW operates what is currently the largest photovoltaic system in the region on the roof of the main building .

In December 2014, the correctional school moved to a new building on the approximately 30 hectare site north of Landesstrasse 419 (Parkstrasse) in the Ronsdorf district. The new prison school building, to which the name Josef-Neuberger-Haus was transferred, is located together with the new state finance school in North Rhine-Westphalia near the hamlet of Erbschlö near the Wuppertal-Ronsdorf prison, which was built in 2011 and was built from January 2013; the Wuppertal riot police will also be relocated here at a later date.
