Jutta Haeser

Jutta Häser (born February 9, 1961 in Oberhausen ) is a German archaeologist from the Middle East .

Jutta Häser studied Near Eastern Archeology , Ancient Near Eastern Studies, and Prehistory and Early History in Göttingen , Århus (Denmark) and Berlin . She received her doctorate in 1998 from the Free University of Berlin with a dissertation on the topic of settlement archeology in the Jebel- Marra region (Darfur / Sudan ). Archaeological use of remote sensing data in the Sahel region.

Häser was a research assistant at the Orient Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Berlin and deals with settlement archeology in the Middle East and Sudan. From 1999 to 2004 she headed the archaeological work field in the project “Transformation Processes in Oasis Settlements in Oman”.

Since 2004, Jutta Häser has been co-director with Dieter Vieweger in the Gadara Region Project and the excavation on the Tall Zira'a . From 2004 to 2013 she was director of the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies of the Holy Land (DEIAHL) in Amman . From 2014 to 2016 she was a research fellow at the Gerda Henkel Foundation and wrote a study on the Byzantine period in Northern Jordan. Since 2017 she has taken over the local management of the cooperation project funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation between DEIAHL and the Department of Antiquities of Jordan on the “Protection of Cultural Property in Jordan”.
