Life

His father Károly Markó the Elder gave him his first drawing lessons at a young age , but he never reached the talent and perfection of his father. In 1843 study trips took him to Rome and Florence . In 1845 he took part in the exhibitions at the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in Florence. From 1851 to 1854 Karoly Marko II lived and worked in Vienna , where his paintings were shown in the Austrian Art Association. Exhibitions followed in Milan , Genoa and Livorno , as well as in the Budapest Artists Circle and the Hungarian National Fine Arts Association . He later became an honorary member of the academies in Florence, Genoa, Perugia and Urbino . At the invitation of a Russian princess, whose daughter Marko was giving drawing lessons in Florence, he moved to Moscow and then died there. After his death, 34 of his paintings and drawings came to Hungary. His brothers, also painters, were András Markó (September 29, 1824 - July 12, 1895) and Ferenc Markó (1832 - August 3, 1874).

Works

Karoly Marko's style is clearly influenced by that of his father. Colder colors, less idealization of the motif and a harder viewing effect are characteristic and differentiating from the works of Karoly Marko the Elder. The subjects were forests, landscapes and motifs of the city of Rome.
