The Cyprichromini , also called Kärpflingscichliden in German , are a tribe of the cichlids (Cichlidae). The seven species of Cyprichromini are endemic to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. The monophyly is proven by various morphological features and examination of DNA sequences. All Kärpfling cichlids live in large schools in the open water near the rocky coast and feed on plankton. All Kärpfling cichlids are mouthbrooders .

features

The Cyprichromini are small cichlids with an elongated, narrow body and lengths of 10 to 14 cm. The mouth is terminal and strongly protruding (protractile). The coloring of the fish is mostly brownish, in many cases with black or bright yellow or blue markings on the long dorsal fin, the anal and caudal fin and vertical bands in these colors on the sides of the body.
