The Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule (KKS) in Hanover - Groß-Buchholz is one of sixteen state- sponsored high schools in Hanover . You can take the German-French AbiBac Abitur there. The school has also shown particular commitment to environmental protection for many years, including through a cooperation project to protect the rainforest in Ecuador. Since the beginning of the 2017/2018 school year, the Käthe-Kollwitz School has been one of the few iPad experimental schools in Hanover. The project is called "Mobile Learning".

history

The KKS was established at Easter 1955 when the Elisabeth Granier School was split into the Ricarda Huch School and the Käthe Kollwitz School. It was named after the artist Käthe Kollwitz (for other schools named after her, see Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule ). After four years of teaching both schools together on Bonifatiusplatz, the KKS moved to a new building on Podbielskistraße in the Groß-Buchholz district in 1959 .

Until 1980 the KKS was an all girls' school . On August 1, 1980, boys were admitted to entry class 7 for the first time, and in 1986 the last all-girls class graduated from high school.

The branch on Gottfried-Keller-Strasse existed until the 1990s as an independent Gottfried Keller school, at that time as an orientation level .

In 2000, the KKS presented itself as an “Expo School” for the state of Lower Saxony at the Expo 2000 world exhibition in Hanover.
