Königshagen (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Königshagen desert (also called Konegeshagen ) is an abandoned village about 3.8 km south of Scharzfeld and 3.3 km southwest of Barbis on the southern edge of the Harz in the district of Göttingen , Lower Saxony , Germany. Today there is another courtyard here.

The place "indago regis" is first mentioned in the year 1228 in the list of goods of the Pöhlde monastery , when Count Heidenreich von Lutterberg , with the consent of his relatives, the Count of Scharzfeld , gave the village of Klein-Königshagen to the Johanniskirche zu Pöhlde and the Gut Klein- Königshagen donated to the Pöhlder collegiate church because of a debt of 100 marks with all rights and justice and the due advocacy to obtain the forgiveness of his sins. In 1230, Count Burchard von Scharzfeld confirmed the donation of the village of Klein-Königshagen (parva regis indago) with the bailiwick to the Pöhlde monastery. The place was probably founded around the middle of the 12th century.

The settlement was archaeologically examined and evaluated by Walter Janssen in the 1960s . It consisted of a fortified, almost circular churchyard with wooden houses on the outer wall. Further farms and ancillary buildings can be found in the immediate vicinity. The settlement emerged as a clearing settlement in the early 12th century around a small castle of low nobility with a stone tower, which was later converted into a church. Around 1413 or 1420 it was destroyed by fire as part of the Flegler War or a feud between Count von Hohnstein and Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse and then abandoned. The residents probably moved to Barbis, but continued to work their old fields.

After the Scharzfels domain was dissolved in 1956, arable and pasture land was made available there for settlement / relocation of farms. In 1963 the first agricultural operations were relocated to Königshagen as part of the land consolidation .

Today the karst hiking trail passes near the Königshagen desert.
