The KÖTTER Group is a German family company based in Essen . The business fields extend from security services and security technology to cleaning and personnel services to building management . The company employs around 18,500 people at 50 locations and achieved sales of 540 million euros in 2018.

history

The group of companies has its origins in the West German Guard and Protection Service Fritz Kötter, founded in 1934 by Karl Friedrich "Fritz" Kötter in Wanne-Eickel . After the Second World War , the company moved to Essen in 1954. After the sudden death of his father in 1957, Friedrich Karl "Fritz" Kötter (1937–2015) took over the company founded by his father in Essen with around 80 employees at the time. At the end of the 1950s, the company took on orders from the Deutsche Bundesbahn and provided security posts. The first branches were founded in Cologne , Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart . After the Deutsche Bundesbahn decided to provide the security posts again, KÖTTER had to restructure. In 1966 Fritz Kötter expanded the company, which had previously specialized in security and security services, to include security technology and in 1970 to include cash and valuables services . KÖTTER has been active in the field of cleaning services since 1985.

Development since 1990

After reunification in 1990, KÖTTER founded 16 branches in the new federal states. In 1993, Friedrich P. Kötter and Martina Kötter, the third generation, joined the family company. In the same year, the company was restructured and regionally independent companies were founded in order to ensure proximity to customers and employees on site. Since then, the group has been controlled by an advisory board. In the following years, KÖTTER expanded its services and became active in the field of judicial services (1993/1994) as well as with KÖTTER Personal Service (1997) in temporary work. In 1999, the company founded its own training and further education facility, the KÖTTER Academy, and merged the emergency and service control centers to form the KÖTTER Net in order to centrally process alarm messages nationwide. The group of companies has been providing security services at airports since 2001. In addition, in 2007 the family company founded Terapon Consulting, a consulting company for first aid treatment of trauma . In crisis and emergency management, German Business Protection, which is part of KÖTTER, has been supporting media companies, among other things, in evaluating crisis areas before research trips. In 2014, KÖTTER acquired the security service provider OSD Schäfer from EnBW as well as parts of the Security Services business area from ISS Facility Services , including in the area of security services and service and emergency control centers. In September 2018, KÖTTER announced the takeover of the Arndt Group based in Fürth ; the takeover was dependent on the approval of the Federal Cartel Office . In October 2018, the Federal Cartel Office gave its approval for the takeover.

Divisions

The KÖTTER group of companies is divided into the three divisions Security, Cleaning, Personal Services. The Facility Services division bundles the services of the other divisions into industry solutions, e.g. B. Automotive or public transport .

The Aviation Security division has repeatedly been criticized for inadequate personnel planning, poorly trained personnel and long queues in the area of flight security at various airports.

Litigation with Ver.di

After Kötter lost a legal dispute with Ver.di worth € 112,500, the company will no longer be a contractor at Düsseldorf Airport from June 1, 2020.
