In 1865, the eastern side of the Pfaffenteich was filled in and a promenade was completed, named Marie Strasse after the Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg . The street was named in 1945 after the politician ( SPD ) August Bebel .

One of the first houses on the street was the three-story plastered late classical residential and commercial building from 1868 (or 1870) with its dominant palace -like corner design and high arches with Doric columns, built for the Hoftischlermeister H. Peters about his plans. Here lived u. a. the court composer Kücken, the notary Peters and the master confectioner Burde.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , this is where the ZDF regional studio MV is based . It was renovated from 1992 to 1995 in accordance with a listed building. The streets around were renewed in 2003. Friedrich’s restaurant has been on the ground floor since 1995 .

Friedrich Wilhelm Kücken (1810–1882) was a musician and composer of the Romantic era . In the 1830s he worked as a music teacher at the court of Grand Duke Paul Friedrich and from 1847 to 1862 as court conductor and court composer in Stuttgart; after that he lived in Schwerin again. The song "Oh, how is it possible then" comes from him. After his death, the house was run as a foundation for young penniless musicians until 1939 according to the composer's will .

The chick monument by the sculptor Ludwig Brunow dates from 1885. The two allegories on the base mean: the imagination of the sound artist and the art of the musician .
