The first recorded place name form dates from 1218 as Chins . The village of Kühnitzsch emerged from the Kühnitzsch Sattelhof and the settlements of Rauden and Naundorf.

Around 1203 a manor and surrounding moat were built, later a moated castle was built, the core of which goes back mainly to the 17th century.

The Kühnitz mill is listed for the first time in the directory of windmills in 1588, the first reference in the church register dates from 1672. In 1812 the mill was rebuilt in its present form.

In 1818 August Schumann mentions Kühnitzsch in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:

"[...] a script. Manor and village […]. It is covered with 13 hooves and has a parish church and school, which are under the Insp. Wurzen and the Collatur of the manor. Besides the local village, the latter also include writings. The village of Watzschwitz, the Vorwerk Zwochau and the Schickemühle, in all 360 inhabitants. Old, up to 1461, this estate was owned by the von Lusigk, von Plausigk and von Plötze families. […] The village of Körlitz was otherwise part of the local church. [...] The local church had its patron, General Christian Plötz, rebuilt in 1705. "

Albert Schiffner added in 1830:

“Nothing is parish here. [...] The estate has a brick factory, u. the windmill is in leipzig-strehlaer Strasse. "

In 1842 the castle was rebuilt in the Romantic style, further modifications were made around 1870. Extensive renovation work was carried out in 1991/92. Until 2004/05 the building was used by a special school and a day care center.

In 1974 the milling operation in the mill ended, in 1978 it was handed over to the community of that time as a technical monument for preservation. In 1992 the windmill blades were reattached to the windmill, which had since been damaged. Today the local homeland association takes care of the preservation.

On April 1, 1997 Kühnitzsch was incorporated into Falkenhain. The merger of the former municipalities of Falkenhain and Hohburg with their respective districts on January 1st, 2012 created the new municipality of Lossatal, which means that Kühnitzsch has been part of the latter since then.
