The Külső-tó , German for "outer lake", is next to the Belső-tó one of two lakes on the Tihany peninsula protruding into Lake Balaton .
The lake is located in the former crater of the volcano from which the peninsula emerged. It is a nature reserve and largely overgrown with reed. While the area used to be drained by canals, drainage has been stopped since 1976 and returned to its natural state.
fauna
In the area of Lake rare animals, different types of living dragonflies , European pond turtles , purple herons , bitterns , marsh harriers and egrets .
