The Timmendorf was a coaster of the cargo ship type Kümo 450, of which only this one unit was built for the German shipping company.
history
The hull was built in 1954 under construction number 120 at the Laubegast ship repair yard in Dresden and then towed to the VEB Peene shipyard in Wolgast to receive the interior fittings there. The ship, originally conceived as a scrap transporter, is based on the Kümo 500 ship type .
German shipping company
The ship entered service on April 10, 1956. It was used as a cargo ship until 1962. On July 13, 1962, it was decommissioned as a cargo ship and then, after minor modifications, was taken over by the People's Navy as an auxiliary ship.
People's Navy
At the Volksmarine, the Timmendorf was put into service as a supplier on July 14, 1962. During her time with the Volksmarine she had board numbers E 62, E 81, E 6 and was stationed with the 6th Flotilla in Dranske .
The ship was decommissioned on June 4, 1983 and later scrapped.
technology
The ship was powered by a 221 kW payable four-stroke - eight-cylinder - Diesel engines of the type 4T-8T-SKL of Magdeburg manufacturer VEB heavy machinery "Karl Liebknecht" .
The cargo hold with a ball space of 610 m³ and a grain space of 640 m³ had two hatches and was closed sea-tight with shear sticks , covers and tarpaulins . The ship was equipped with two ship cranes arranged amidships between the two hatches , each of which could lift 3 tons. In 1977 it was replaced by a single crane.
Seven chambers were available for the crew . Five of them were two-man chambers, only the captain and chief engineer had individual chambers. Because of the poor visibility from the very low bridge , the ship received a new, raised bridge structure in 1957/58.
