Kōdai Tsukakoshi ( Japanese 塚 越 広 大 , Tsukakoshi Kōdai ; born November 20, 1986 in Tochigi Prefecture ) is a Japanese automobile racing driver . He competed in the Super Formula (formerly Formula Nippon) from 2009 to 2015 .

Career

Tsukakoshi began his motorsport career in karting , where he was active until 2003. In 2004 he moved into the single-seater racing in the Japanese Formula Dream. In 2005 he won the championship title of this racing series. He also took part in some races of the Japanese Formula 3 championship and a race in the Asian Formula Renault Challenge . In 2006 Tsukakoshi drove for the Honda Team Mugen in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. He won a race and finished fifth overall. In 2007 Tsukakoshi completed his third Japanese Formula 3 championship for Honda Team Real. He finished the season with two wins again in fifth place overall. Tsukakoshi also started for Manor Motorsport at the Macau Grand Prix and finished second behind Oliver Jarvis .

In 2008 Tsukakoshi moved to Europe in the Formula 3 Euro Series . Starting for Manor Motorsport, he scored 36 points. He didn't win a race but finished second four times. At the end of the season, Tsukakoshi reached seventh place overall. He also competed in a Super GT race for Real in Japan . In autumn he took part in test drives of the GP2 series for Piquet Sports , but there was no engagement.

In 2009 Tsukakoshi returned to Japan and started for HFDP Racing in Formula Nippon . With two fourth places as the best results, he finished seventh in the overall ranking. He also started for Keihin Real Racing. He finished the season together with his teammate Toshihiro Kaneishi in fifth place overall. In 2010 Tsukakoshi contested his second season in Formula Nippon for HFDP Racing. A second place was his best result and he finished the season ninth in the championship. In the Super GT, Kaneishi and Tsukakoshi stayed with Keihin Real Racing. The two won a race and finished third in the overall standings.

In 2011 Tsukakoshi switched to Docomo Team Dandelion Racing within Formula Nippon . With two third places as the best results, he came fourth in the drivers' championship. In the Super GT he started again with Kaneishi for Keihin Real Racing. With three third places as the best results, the two achieved fourth place. In 2012 Tsukakoshi won his first Formula Nippon win for Dandelion, starting in Kamitsue . In the championship he was second behind Kazuki Nakajima with 43 to 46 points . He also stayed with Kaneishi at Keihin Real Racing in the Super GT. The two finished twelfth overall with third place.

In 2013 , Formula Nippon was renamed Super Formula and Tsukakoshi also switched to Real Racing in this championship. With a sixth place he scored points only once and was 15th in the drivers' championship. In the Super GT, Tsukakoshi and Kaneishi achieved three podiums for Keihin Real Racing. With 67 to 69 points they were defeated at the end of the season Kōhei Hirate / Yūji Tachikawa and came second overall. In 2014 Tsukakoshi improved to eleventh place overall in the Super Formula. Tsukakoshi and Kaneishi finished the Super GT in twelfth place for Keihin Real Racing. In 2015 Tsukakoshi competed again for Real Racing in the Super Formula. Two ninth places were his best results. In the Super GT, Tsukakoshi formed a driver duo with Hideki Mutoh at Keihin Real Racing this season . With two third places, the two racing drivers were overall eighth.
