Kōzō Iizuka

Kōzō Iizuka ( Japanese 飯 塚 幸 三 , Iizuka Kōzō ; born June 1, 1931 in the Nakano District , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese engineer and technical officer with the Ministry of Economy and Industry .

Life

He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo , where he graduated in the Department of Applied Physics in 1953 and received his doctorate in 1972. He specialized in metrology , but also researched hardness measurement and was director of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology

Furthermore, Kōzō Iizuka was a member of the board of directors of the Kubota company and was the first Japanese to be president of the International Committee for Weights and Measures for 15 years . ( 国際 度量衡 委員会 , Kokusai Doryōkō Iinsai ). The day of measurement goes back to a suggestion from him. Furthermore, he was Vice President of the " Japanese Industrial Standards Committee " ( 日本 産業 標準 調査 会 , Nihon Sangyō Hyōjun Chōsakai , short: JISC). In 2015 he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure for his services to international trade and industrial administration .

Iizuka on 19 April 2019 caused with his Toyota Prius in the district of Ikebukuro in Tokyo a serious car accident. He ran over a red light and a zebra crossing and collided with a garbage truck. In this accident, two people (a girl and her mother) were killed and ten people, including himself, were injured. The cause of the accident was stated to be that Iizuka stepped on the accelerator while trying to apply the brakes. Iizuka had previously been instructed by a doctor to stop driving. After the accident, he was not taken into police custody because there was no risk of escaping, but parts of the Japanese public speculated that he had received preferential treatment due to his high social status. Iizuka's license is said to be revoked.
