The KET-T ( Russian КЭТ-Т , short for Колесный эвакуационный тягач - тяжелый ; German: "Bergeradfahrzeug heavy" ) is a Soviet recovery and towing vehicle based on the heavy towing vehicle MAZ-537 G. A modernized variant is based on the KZ model -7428 Russitsch . The KET-T serves as a mobile workshop and has the task of recovering heavy wheeled vehicles in the field.

Development history

Development work on a heavy recovery vehicle based on the MAZ-537 began in the mid-1980s at various research institutes in the USSR. The result was the KET-T, which was constructed on the proven chassis of the MAZ-537G. From 1987 to 1990 production took place in the Central Automobile Repair Plant 172 (172 ЦАРЗ) in Voronezh . In the 1990s, production was switched to the chassis of the KZKT-7428 tractor from Kurganski Sawod Koljosnych Tjagatschei . More precise production figures are not known. In a few sources, the version based on the KZKT-7428 is referred to as KET-TM. The KET-T is only used in the Russian army and is used to escort larger military convoys.

The KET-T is a four-axle all-wheel-drive towing vehicle that is used to repair or tow broken down military trucks from the manufacturers GAZ , ZIL , Ural , KAMAZ , KrAZ , BAZ , MZKT and MAZ . To pull the vehicles, a special lifting and supporting device as well as a winch with a pulling force of 147 kN with jib (rope length 100 m) were installed. The winch is mounted on a reinforced subframe directly above the truck's gearbox. It is set in motion by a power take-off via a cardan shaft. The KET-T has two lowerable ground spurs at the rear of the vehicle, which ensure stability when the winch is used. The winch can be operated from the driver's cab . With the help of tow goggles, vehicles that are no longer roadworthy can be lifted on the front or rear axles and towed away. The maximum load is 25 tons. At the front of the vehicle, the KET-T has a reinforced concrete bumper to push damaged vehicles. Other equipment such as welding equipment is carried in the vehicle.

The base vehicle is powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine . The MAZ-537G and the KZKT-7428-012 have a twelve-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine of the type D12A-525 which , with its 38.88 liter displacement, develops 386 kW (525 hp). This means that the tow vehicle can reach a maximum of 55 km / h.
