The KZKT-7428 Russitsch ( Russian КЗКТ-7428 "Русич" ) is a heavy tractor with all-wheel drive from the Russian manufacturer Kurganski Sawod Koljosnych Tjagachei . The truck was mass-produced in various versions from 1990 to 2011 and is intended for pulling semi-trailers, mainly as an armored transporter .

History of origin

As early as the 1970s, attempts were made to replace the first widespread and now obsolete Soviet tank transporter MAZ-537 with a new design. The main task of the developers at Kurganski Zavod Koljosnych Tjagachei (KZKT) was to increase the engine power of the vehicle. In the mid-1970s there were the prototypes KZKT-545 (with a W38 diesel engine and double cabin) and the KZKT-7426 (with a D12A-650 diesel engine), neither of which went into series production. The main reason was the shortage of the powerful tank engines that should have been used for both models.

In 1978 further decisions were made at the political level to KZKT to develop tractors with trailer loads of 150, 300 and 600 tons. The result of this order was the KZKT-7427, which was equipped with a diesel engine of the type D-12AN-650 (38.88 liter displacement). Again, the problem was poor availability. In addition, the engines had too little downtime ; they would have been worn out after just one year of normal operation. So it was decided to use another V12 diesel engine of the JaMZ-8401 type from the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod instead of the tank engine . It also developed 650 hp (478 kW), but had a smaller displacement of just under 26 liters. In 1985 the vehicles were tested.

Based on the experience with the KZKT-7426 and KZKT-7427 models, the KZKT-7428 was built in the late 1980s. KZKT used the same version of the JaMZ-8401 diesel engine as various dump trucks made by the Belarusian manufacturer BelAZ . The trucks passed all tests and were recommended to government agencies for series production. This started in 1990.

Compared to the MAZ-537, mainly the driver's cab, the gearbox and the engine have been brought up to date. The latter is located directly behind the newly designed driver's cab , which offers space for five more people in addition to the driver. Typically, the truck has all-wheel drive and all axles have individual tires. In addition to the four-axis version (8 × 8), KZKT also produced models with three (6 × 6) and five-axis (10 × 8). Production ended at the latest when the manufacturer was dissolved in 2011 after bankruptcy .
