Sewer pipe
A basic sewer pipe (short: KG or KG pipe ) is a type of pipe that is mainly used for sewage disposal in the ground from a building to the public sewer system . The mostly light brown plastic pipes are produced in different nominal sizes .

Commercially available basic sewer pipes (KG pipes) can be recognized by their orange-brown color and can thus be clearly distinguished from the gray high-temperature pipe (HT pipe). They often consist of rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) and are only intended to lead sewage underground to the sewer. The basic sewer pipe is a general term for a pressureless sewage system, which is usually connected with plug-in sleeves (and sealing element).
KG pipes must not be used for indoor lines because they are not temperature-resistant. High-temperature pipes (HT) or SML pipes are used here. Temperature-resistant here means that the pipes do not deform and do not outgas if the wastewater temperature is too high. KG pipes would outgas at a waste water temperature of around 65 ° C; in addition, a fire in the house would produce toxic gases. The pipes are manufactured in nominal diameters ( DN ) from 100 to 600 mm and in lengths from 500 to 5000 mm.
Nominal sizes
As a rule, the nominal diameters or nominal widths (DN) indicate the inside diameter of sewer pipes (e.g. stoneware or concrete pipes ). However, this is not the case with the KG pipe according to DIN 1401. The outside diameter (d 1 ) of the pipe is standardized and the same for all KG pipes. The wall thickness (e or s 1 ) and thus the inner diameter (d i ) vary according to the ring stiffness, the material used, the safety class, etc.

More stable pipes have greater wall thicknesses with the same outer diameter and correspondingly reduced inner diameter, for example with DN 200 instead of 4.9 mm 6.8 mm wall thickness. The outer diameter against which the sealing ring located in the groove of the socket is pressed is relevant for compatibility.
KG pipes are compatible with some other pipe types such as B. HT pipes or PE-HD pipes (with TML, SML or KML pipes only for some nominal sizes) compatible. These have a range of intermediate sizes with outside diameters of 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 75, 90, 140, 180, 225, 280, 355, 450, 710, 800, 900, 1000 and 1200 mm.

The simplest version of the basic sewer pipe made of hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) corresponds to a ring stiffness (SN) of 4. There are also basic sewer pipes made of hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) with a ring stiffness (SN) of 8. PVC-U -SN8 pipes are differentiated between core foamed pipes and solid wall pipes. In the case of the core-foamed pipes, the space is created by means of coextrusion z. B. filled with foamed recyclate, while the entire wall of solid-wall pipes consists of the base material. Both SN4 and SN8 pipes can be identified by their mostly orange color ( RAL 8023 ).
The more resilient version of this sewer pipe is the polypropylene pipe (PP pipe). This achieves a ring stiffness (SN) of 10 and is manufactured either in green, orange or blue. Other versions with a corrugated surface or combinations of hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) and polypropylene (PP) are offered by the industry with a wide variety of ring stiffnesses. Other alternatives are pipes made of stoneware, concrete, reinforced concrete, ductile cast iron or, rarely, steel.
Shoring
The minimum gradient for the construction of sewer base pipes in base and collecting pipes is:
- inside buildings according to DIN 1986-100: 0.5 cm / m
- outside of buildings according to EN 752-4: for diameters smaller than DN 300 at least 1: DN, lower gradients are permissible if a flow rate of at least 0.7 m / s required for self-cleaning occurs every day.
