The KHD T4M 625R are two-axle diesel locomotives with rod drive , which were designed for light shunting service. They were built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) from 1953 to 1961 and used by various private railways in Germany and Europe. Several locomotives in the series have been preserved.

development

The locomotives were created at a time when the manufacturer KHD engine designation was identical to the locomotive designation. The basis of their name was the introduction of a new engine series, which was designed as a water-cooled two-stroke engine with V-shaped cylinders. The V-arrangement made it possible to lower the height of the engines and thus lower bonnets to improve the view of the route for the train driver.

The development initially included the construction of 25 locomotives with the designation KHD T4M 525R , at the same time locomotives with an engine output of 240 to 260 hp and the designation KHD T4M 625R type B , which were identical in dimensions. The KHD T4M 625R type B locomotives are also referred to as type KS240B . This designation was probably chosen for the locomotives produced until 1961.

In the same period of time eleven locomotives with the wheel arrangement C were also built and equipped with an engine with six cylinders, which were designated as KHD T6M 625R .

The following were delivered to Germany:

Sales outside Germany

The remaining locomotives went to Italy , France , Switzerland and the Netherlands .

Sweden

After Sweden 41 locomotives were supplied: ( Tobacco AB Grängesberg-Oxelösunds Järnväg : TGOJ V1 811-815 ; Malmo Limhamns Järnväg : MLY Z6 11 ; Statens Järnvägar : SJ Z6 342-356 , later SJ 342-356 Z64 and Z64 SJ 387- 396 and 412-421 ).

At the end of the 1970s, the SJ modernized their locomotives. The original Deutz engine was replaced by a more powerful Scania engine in the Z64 345, 346, 348, 350, 387–390, 396, 412–416 and 418–420. This allowed the top speed to be increased slightly to 53 km / h. The driver's cabs have been converted and soundproofed.

In 2019 the following were available as museum locomotives:

technology

The locomotives were designed like the Wehrmacht WR 200 B 14 locomotive with two axles that were driven by the jackshaft and coupling rods arranged between the axles . The cab was at the rear of the locomotive. Compared to the pre-war version, the height of the front end could be reduced. The diesel engine was a four-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine named T4M 625R . It was water-cooled and could be started with compressed air. Power Transmission was a fluid transmission from Voith used.

Originally the locomotives were equipped with simple headlights, later they received headlights with integrated tail lights.

commitment

The use of the locomotives was for easy shunting and handover over short distances.

Cologne-Bonn Railway

The KBE received a locomotive in 1957. It was sold to a construction company in Hattingen in 1981 and from there to Italy in the early 1990s. The further whereabouts are not known.

Ruhr-Lippe Railway

The RLE designated their three locomotives with D52 , D56 and D57 .

The D52 came to the Hamm Museum Railway in 1982 . Since 2007 it has had the NVR number 98 80 0270 052-0 D-MEH in the German vehicle settings register .

The D56 was in service until 1981 when it was parked and sold to Italy. The further whereabouts are not known. The D 57 followed the same route .

V 25 at Historischer Eisenbahnverkehr Wesel

The locomotive with the KHD works number Deutz 56122 , one of the six locomotives of Häfen Köln GmbH, is available as a museum locomotive. After various assignments in Germany, she is with the historical rail traffic association Wesel , where she is known as V25 .
